Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 09/2025
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 58,635 persons in September 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 1.6%, and standing at 3,683,920 persons, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in 39 counties and Aran, led by Osona (3.4%), El Baix Penedès (2.7%) and El Segrià (2.3%). Osona is affected by the change in county assignment of Aiguafreda which has switched from El Vallès Oriental to Osona. By contrast, the number of contributors fell in three counties, with the highest relative decrease in La Terra Alta (−0.6%).
As for the municipalities in Catalonia, the number of contributors increased or remained stable in 3 out of 4 municipalities (720) in September compared to the same month of the previous year, while in the remainder it decreased (227). It is noteworthy that all municipalities in Catalonia with more than 50,000 inhabitants increased the number of contributors compared to one year earlier, led by Vilanova i la Geltrú (2.9%) and Lleida (2.8%).
Compared to August, the number of contributors decreased in Catalonia as a whole by 12,455 (−0.3%) and did so in 32 counties and Aran, led by Aran (−10.7%) and El Pallars Sobirà (−9.7%). Conversely, it rose in 9 counties, with the highest relative increases in El Vallès Occidental (1.4%) and El Baix Llobregat (1.1%), while it remained stable in El Priorat.
By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 27,595 and that of men by 31,040, which represents year-over-year increases of 1.6% in both cases.
In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups, except for the 30 to 44 age group, which fell by 0.5%. Contributors under the age of 30 increased the most (3.5%) in 38 counties and Aran, the main growth was in El Priorat (8.7%) and El Pla d'Urgell (8.1%).
The number of foreign national contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole (4.7%) compared to the same month in the previous year and did so throughout the territory, except in La Cerdanya and La Terra Alta. As for Spanish national contributors, they increased in Catalonia as a whole (1.0%) and also in 29 counties.
Affiliations registered increases in all sectors except for agriculture, which remained almost stable compared to a year earlier. Construction recorded the highest relative increase, with a rise of 3.2% for Catalonia as a whole, and it also grew in 32 counties..
By type of working day, 19.0% of employee affiliations in August were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 25.6%, more than double the figure for men (12.5%).
In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 9.9%. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were La Ribera d'Ebre (13.7%) and El Pallars Sobirà (13.6%), while El Baix Empordà registered the lowest level (−7.1%).
Likewise, the available information has been expanded offering data on Social Security contributors according to the number of affiliations, data on employee affiliations by legal form of the contracting company and data on Social Security affiliations for self-employed workers according to the pluriactivity of the self-employed person and whether they have or haven't employees, crossed by sex, age, nationality and economic activity. Last, affiliations to the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers by type of self-employed worker are also disseminated, crossed by demographic variables and the situation of pluriactivity.
