Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 10/2025
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 73,985 people in October 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 2.1%, to stand at 3,670,110 people. Contributors rose in all counties except L’Alta Ribagorça, where they remained almost stable (−0.3%). The largest increases in relative terms were in Osona and El Baix Penedès (both 3.9%, albeit Osona is affected by the change in the county assignment of the municipality of Aiguafreda), La Noguera (3.4%) and El Segrià (3.3%).
As for the municipalities of Catalonia, the number of contributors rose or remained stable in 83% of them (786 municipalities) compared to the same month in the previous year, while it fell in the rest (161 municipalities). All municipalities in Catalonia with 50,000 inhabitants or more posted an increase in the number of contributors compared to a year ago, led by Vilanova i la Geltrú (3.5%) and Lleida (3.4%).
Compared to September, the number of contributors remained almost stable in Catalonia as a whole with a rise of 4,440 contributors (0.1%). Twenty-four counties recorded increases, led in relative terms by El Montsià (1.6%) and L’Alt Urgell (1.2%). In contrast, contributors fell in 18 counties and Aran, with the largest decreases in L’Alta Ribagorça (−4.0%), La Selva (−3.3%) and Aran (−3.2%).
By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 34,725 and that of men by 39,265. This represents year-over-year increases of 2.0% and 2.1%, respectively.
In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups, except for the 30 to 44 age group which remained almost stable (−0.1%). The largest increase was in the group of contributors aged 55 and over at 4.9%, followed by those under 30 at 4.4%.
By nationality, foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 4.2% compared to the same month in the previous year and were up in all areas except La Cerdanya and La Terra Alta where they remained stable. Spanish national contributors increased by 1.6% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 37 counties and Aran.
Affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.3% year-over-year, growing across the entire territory. Affiliations in industry rose by 1.0% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 29 counties and Aran. The increase in construction was 3.5%, with affiliations growing in 34 counties and Aran. The largest relative rise of all sectors was recorded in agriculture at 2.6%, representing 1,350 more affiliations.
By type of working day, 19.2% of employee affiliations in October were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 25.9%, more than double the figure for men (12.7%).
In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.0%. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were El Pallars Sobirà (13.9%), La Ribera d’Ebre (13.8%) and El Pallars Jussà (13.3%) while El Baix Empordà registered the lowest level (7.6%).
