Household Projections. 2024-2044. Municipalities with 20,000 inhabitants and more and county capitals
For the first time, Idescat is releasing household projections for municipalities with 20,000 inhabitants or more as well as the county capitals, a total of 92 municipalities. Data are provided for the period 2024–2044 according to three projection scenarios: medium, high and low.
In 2034, the number of households would be higher than the current number in all municipalities with 20,000 inhabitants or more, as well as in the county capitals, according to the medium scenario of the Household Projections base 2024. In 57 municipalities, the relative growth in the number of households would be higher than that of Catalonia (8.3%). The list would be headed by Calafell (24.7%), Salou (22.6%) and Sitges (19.1%). Conversely, in 35 municipalities, households would grow less than the Catalan average. The list would be headed by Cerdanyola del Vallès (0.8%), Barcelona (1.0%) and Ripoll (3.2%).
In the period 2024-2034, average household size would increase in 7 municipalities and decrease in 85, while the average in Catalonia would decrease slightly (from 2.56 persons in 2024 to 2.53 persons in 2034). The largest increases between 2024 and 2034 would be recorded in Barcelona (which would go from 2.39 to 2.43 persons per household), followed by El Pont de Suert and Tremp, which would go from 2.35 to 2.38 in both cases. The largest decreases would be recorded in Sant Andreu de la Barca (from 2.71 to 2.57), Sant Quirze del Vallès (from 2.56 to 2.43) and Les Franqueses del Vallès (from 2.75 to 2.63).
In 2034, one-person households would increase in all municipalities except Barcelona. The largest relative increase in single-person households would be recorded in Les Franqueses del Vallès (33.2%), Sant Just Desvern (31.6%) and Castelldefels (30.8%).
Two-person households would increase in all municipalities except Barcelona and Esplugues de Llobregat. The largest relative increase would be recorded in Salou (26.9%).
Three-person households would increase in 80 municipalities and decrease in 12, while four-person households would increase in 48 municipalities and decrease in 44. Calafell would record the largest relative increase in three-person households (23.0%) and four-person households (18.1%).
Households with five people or more would increase in all municipalities except Roses and Sant Quirze del Vallès. Sitges would record the largest relative increase in households with five people or more (27.9%).
