Birth Statistics. 2024. Definitive data

In 2024, there were 53,802 live births to mothers residing in Catalonia, according to final data from the Birth Statistics. This data represents a decrease of 0.8% compared to the previous year. This figure is the lowest in the entire historical series, which begins in 1975.

The short-term fertility rate fell to1.08 children per woman, two tenths below that of 2023 (1.10 children per women) and below the 2008 maximum (1.53 children per woman). The average age at motherhood for women was 32.6 years. The crude birth rate in 2024 stood at 6.7 live births per 1,000 inhabitants, a figure lower than that of 2023 (6.8 per thousand).
