The population of Catalonia increased by 111,895 inhabitants in 2024 and as of 1 January 2025 it stood at 8,124,126 inhabitants, according to data from the Population Census. In relative terms, in 2024 the population grew by 1.4%.
In 2024, the population grew in 38 counties and Aran.
The counties with the greatest growth in relative terms were El Baix Ebre, El Baix Penedès and L'Urgell (2.0% each), and there were 13 more counties which stood above the average for Catalonia. Conversely, La Terra Alta (−0.5%) and El Priorat (−0.1%) were the counties that lost more population.
Among municipalities with 10,000 inhabitants and over, the main increases in relative terms were recorded in Cunit (3.5%), L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (3.5%), Alcarràs (3.3%) and Mont-roig del Camp (3.3%), while the main decreases were in Sant Cugat del Vallés (−0.7%), Lloret de Mar (−0.5%), Roses (−0.4%) and Badia del Vallès (−0.4%).
