Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 11/2025
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 73,225 people in November 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year. This figure represents an increase of 2.0%, standing at 3,697,350 people. Contributors were up in all counties except La Ribera d’Ebre, where they remained stable. The largest increases in relative terms were in Aran (4.7%), El Baix Penedès (4.0%), Osona (3.8%) –albeit affected by the change in the county assignment of the municipality of Aiguafreda– and Les Garrigues (3.4%).
As for the municipalities of Catalonia, the number of contributors rose or remained stable in 82% of them (778 municipalities) compared to the same month in the previous year, while it fell in the rest (169 municipalities). All municipalities in Catalonia with 50,000 inhabitants or more posted an increase in their number of contributors compared to a year ago, led in relative figures by Vilanova i la Geltrú (3.4%) and Manresa (3.1%).
Compared to October, the number of contributors was up in Catalonia as a whole by 27,240 people (0.7%), with increases in 35 counties and Aran led by Aran (6.9%), L'Anoia (1.9%) and L'Alta Ribagorça (1.8%). By contrast, the number of contributors fell in 7 counties with the largest relative decreases in La Selva (−4.1%) and El Tarragonès (−2.1%).
By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 34,560 and that of men by 38,665. This represents year-over-year increases of 2.0% in both cases.
In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups, except for the 30 to 44 age group (−0.2%). The largest increase was in the group of contributors aged 55 and over at 4.8%, followed by those under 30 at 4.4%.
By nationality, foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 4.0% compared to the same month in the previous year and were up in all counties except La Terra Alta where they remained stable. Spanish national contributors increased by 1.6% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 37 counties and Aran.
The number of Social Security affiliations stood at 3,896,345 in November, representing an increase of 2.2% compared to the same month in the previous year. By sector, affiliations in the services sector were up by 2.3% year over year, growing across the entire territory except in La Ribera d’Ebre (−0.2%). Affiliations in industry rose by 1.0% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 29 counties and Aran. The increase in construction was 3.4%, the largest of all sectors, with affiliations growing in 34 counties, declining in 6 and remaining stable in 2 counties and Aran. Affiliations in agriculture rose by 0.1% with 70 more affiliations than a year ago.
By type of working day, 19.5% of employee affiliations in November were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.1%, more than double the figure for men (12.9%).
In terms of temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.5%. The counties with the highest level of temporary employment were La Ribera d’Ebre (14.5%) and El Pallars Sobirà (14.0%) while El Baix Empordà (7.9%) registered the lowest level.
