Consumer Confidence Index. 10/2025
Idescat is starting a new section of experimental statistics, publishing the Consumer Confidence Index today.
The Consumer Confidence Index for Catalonia stood at 79.5 points in October 2025, representing a decrease of 9.0 points compared to September and 2.7 points compared to October 2024.
The Consumer Confidence Index measures consumer optimism or pessimism on a monthly basis with respect to their household finances, job market conditions and the country’s economy in general. A higher level of confidence indicates a greater willingness to spend, while lower confidence points to a tendency to save or rein in spending.
This Index is based on consumers’ assessment of the current situation compared to six months ago and their expectations for the next six months, considering three components: household finances, the job market and the general economy.
The household finances confidence index stood at 94.4 in October, down 6.5 points compared to September but 2.1 points higher than a year ago in October 2024.
The job market confidence index fell both compared to the previous month (−8.1 points) and year-over-year (−0.8 points), ending up at 77.0.
As for confidence in the general economy, the index came to 67.1. This figure was down 12.4 points from September and, in year-over-year terms, below the confidence level of a year ago (−9.4 points).
The assessment of the current situation compared to six months ago showed an index for Catalonia of 78.0 points, 4.4 points lower than the previous month. By component and compared to September, the assessment index for the general economic situation was down by 11.2 points and for the household finances situation by 3.8 points, while the assessment index for the job market situation was up 1.8 points.
In year-over-year terms, confidence in the household finances and job market situations was up by 4.4 and 7.7 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the assessment of the current state of the general economy saw a year-over-year drop of 1.2 points.
Expectations index by component
In terms of expectations (for the coming six months) in the Consumer Confidence Index, October recorded an index of 81.1, with a decrease of 13.5 points higher than in the situation index. This result is due to the negative monthly change in the three components: expectations regarding household finances (−9.1 points), the job market (−18.0 points) and the general economy (−13.4 points).
In year-over-year terms, i.e. compared to October last year, the assessment of household finances expectations remained virtually stable (−0.1 points) while confidence in job market expectations was down by 9.2 points and in the general economy by 17.4 points.
