The Government is promoting a new system for access to statistical and administrative data to facilitate the evaluation of public policies.
The Government, through the Government Agreement of 20 January 2026, is promoting a new system for access to statistical and administrative data, managed and coordinated by the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat), in order to foster research and the evaluation of public policies. It is also promoting the forthcoming creation of a single-window access point for data.
The implementation of a system for accessing and integrating statistical and administrative data, which satisfies the information needs for evaluating public policies and for research, must make a decisive contribution to better decision-making based on rigorous evidence. This, in turn, promotes a more efficient allocation of public resources in response to social challenges.
The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat), through the future Datalab Office, is tasked with managing and coordinating this data access system. This includes establishing the standards and other elements required for data homogenisation and governance of the data made accessible through the system, as well as integrating data when requested by applicants as required to ensure the protection of the information supplied.
The governance of the system for accessing and integrating statistical and administrative data - promoted by Idescat and the Catalan Institute for Public Policy Evaluation (Ivàlua) – is structured within the institutional framework of the Statistics System of Catalonia and will be managed and coordinated through Idescat. <(p>
In this context, the Catalan Statistics Council, as a collegiate advisory and consultative body, plays an important role in ensuring the quality, coherence, strategic alignment, and suitability of the system to meet public information needs.
With the aim of strengthening the institutional integration of the system, the inclusion of a representative from Ivàlua on the Catalan Statistics Council is planned, in accordance with the Decree on the organisation and functioning of Idescat, which is currently being processed.
