Consumer Confidence Index. 12/2025

The Consumer Confidence Index for Catalonia stood at 80.9 in December 2025, representing a decrease of 0.5 percentage points compared to November, and a decrease of 4.4 points compared to Dseember 2024.

This Index is based on consumers’ assessment of the current situation compared to six months ago and their expectations for the next six months, considering three components: household economy, the labour market and the general economy.

The household economy confidence index stood at 96.3 in December, representing an increase of 2.5 points compared to November but a decrease of 6.3 points compared to a year ago. Confidence in expectations regarding the household economy stood out, remaining above 100 since November 2023 (with the exception of July 2025). Specifically, November showed an increase of 4.3 points and the index stood at 106.4.

The labour market confidence index fell both compared to the previous month (−0.3 points) and in year-over-year terms (− 4.8 points), standing at 76.0.

Regarding confidence in the general economy, the index stood at 70.6 in December, the lowest value of the three components. This index also decreased both compared to November (−3.5 points) and in year-over-year terms (−1.8 points).

The assessment of the current situation compared to six months ago recorded an index of 76.4 points for Catalonia, 0.6 points lower than the index for the previous month. This result was explained by the negative performance of confidence in the general economy (−5.7 points), which was more pronounced than the increase observed in the other two components for the previous month: the assessment index for the labour market improved by 3.4 points and that for the household economy by 0.6 points.

In year-over-year terms, the assessment of the current situation increased by 0.5 points. This result reflects the year-over-year increase in confidence in the labour market situation and in the general economy (5.7 and 3.7 points, respectively), which offset the 8.0-point year-over-year decrease in confidence in the household economy.

With regard to the next six months, the Consumer Confidence Expectations Index recorded a value of 85.5 for December, and a monthly decrease of 0.3 points. This decline reflected the negative performance of two of its three components. In this respect, expectations regarding the labour market decreased by 4.0 points and expectations regarding the general economy decreased by 1.3 points. These decreases were not offset by the monthly increase in expectations concerning the household economy (4.3 points).

In year-over-year terms, i.e., compared to December 2024, the expectations index decreased by 9.1 points. The three components showed a deterioration of varying intensity: expectations regarding the household economy and the general economy decreased by 4.8 and 7.4 points respectively, and those concerning the labour market declined by 15.4 points.
