Industrial Production Index. 01/2026

Idescat is publishing for the first time the calendar and seasonally adjusted Industrial Production Index, by economic destination of goods and by sections and branches of activity. This information complements the data already disseminated for the unadjusted index and the calendar adjusted index, now including seasonal adjustment regarding sections and branches of activity.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted Industrial Production Index decreased by 1.7% year over year in Catalonia in January 2026. In month-over-month terms, compared to December 2025, the Index has decreased by 1.5%.

By economic destination of goods, all main industrial groupings decreased in year-over-year terms: energy by 0.3%, consumer goods by 1.7%, capital goods by 2.1% and intermediate goods by 3.3%. Regarding the Industrial Products Index, which does not include energy, it decreased by 2.2% compared to the same month of the previous year.

By sections and branches of activity, the highest year-over-year decreases were recorded in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (−17.8%) and in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (−6.9%); in contrast, the most outstanding increases occurred in mining and quarrying (13.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and mechanical equipment (8.1%).
