Foreign Trade according to Technological Content. Q4/2025 and 2025. Provisional data

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the analysis of industrial products according to research and development (R&D) intensity shows that exports of high-technology products decreased by 2.2% year over year (3,301.9 million euros) and those of medium high-technology level products by 4.7%. In contrast, foreign sales of medium low-technology and low-technology level products increased by 4.4% and 0.5%, respectively. As a whole, industrial exports for the fourth quarter decreased by 1.9% year over year.

Regarding imports of industrial products, all technology levels showed increases, except for those of high-technology, which decreased by 10.1% year over year (3,330.3 million euros). Medium high-technology level imports increased by 3.4%, medium low-technology by 2.2% and low-technology by 1.5%. Total imports of industrial products increased by 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the fourth quarter of 2024.

In the year 2025, high-technology exports from Catalonia reached 12,571.4 million euros, a figure that represents a 6.6% increase compared to 2024. In the case of high-technology imports, the value was 14,001.1 million euros, 2.4% more than the previous year. These results put the coverage rate for high-technology products at 89.8%.

Regarding exports of medium high-technology level products, these reached 45,488.2 million euros, a figure that represents a decrease of 1.6% compared to the previous year. Regarding medium high-technology level imports, the value was 48,720.5 million euros, 4.2% more than the previous year. On the other hand, exports of medium low-technology level products decreased by 2.9% compared to the previous year (11,829.1 million euros), while imports increased by 5.1% (15,735.5 million euros). Last, foreign sales of low-technology level products, with a value of 25,690.2 million euros, increased by 3.9% compared to 2024 and imports, which reached a value of 25,300.7 million euros, increased by 6.3%.

By country, Switzerland is the country to which Catalonia exported most high-technology products during 2025, specifically 1,819.1 million euros; it was followed by France (1,524.0 million euros) and Germany (1,236.5 million euros). In contrast, according to the origin of imports, the main countries were Germany (2,477.9 million euros), China (2,346.7 million euros) and the United States (1,298.9 million euros).
