Consumer Confidence Index. 01/2026
The Consumer Confidence Index for Catalonia stood at 84.0 in January 2026, representing an increase of 3.1 percentage points compared to the previous month, but a decrease of 7.1 points compared to January 2025.
This Index is based on consumers’ assessment of the current situation compared to six months ago and their expectations for the next six months, considering the following three components: household economy, the labour market and the general economy.
Regarding the household economy confidence index, it stood above 100, which had not happened since September 2025, and reached a value of 100.3. This figure represents an increase of 4.0 points compared to December and of 1.9 points compared to a year ago (January 2025). Expectations regarding the household economy stood out, remaining above 100 since November 2023 (except in July 2025). Specifically, January 2026 registered an increase of 5.3 points, and the index stood at 111.7.
In relation to the labour market confidence index, it reached a value of 80.8, which represents an increase compared to December 2025 (4.8 points) and a decrease in year-over-year terms (−9.0 points).
Regarding confidence in the general economy, the index reached a value of 71.1, the lowest value of the three components, a fact that has been repeated since October 2024. This index, as the labour market confidence index did, also increased compared to December 2025 (0.5 points) and decreased in year-over-year terms (−13.9 points).
In January 2026, the assessment of the situation compared to six months ago recorded an index for Catalonia of 76.0 points, 0.4 points lower than the index for the previous month (December 2025). These data are explained by the positive performance of confidence in two of its three components. In this sense, both confidence in the general economy and in the household economy increased compared to the previous month (2.3 points and 2.8 points, respectively), while labour market confidence decreased (−6.4 points).
In year-over-year terms, the assessment of the current situation decreased by 7.9 points. This result was due to the year-over-year decrease in confidence in the general economy (−11.5 points), in the labour market (−11.6 points) and in the household economy (−0.5 points).
In relation to the next six months, the consumer confidence expectations index in January 2026 recorded a value of 92.1, an increase of 6.6 points compared to December 2025. This increase reflected the positive performance of two of its three components: assessments of expectations regarding the labour market and regarding the household economy increased (16.0 and 5.3 points, respectively), while the assessment of expectations regarding the general economy decreased (−1.4 points).
In year-over-year terms, i.e., compared to January 2025, the expectations index decreased by 6.1 points. This was due to the year-over-year decrease in confidence in the labour market situation and in the general economy (−6.4 and −16.4 points, respectively), which cannot be offset by the year-over-year increase of 4.2 points in confidence in the household economy.
