Statistics on Salaried Employment and Self-Employment according to Social Security Affiliations. 03/2026. Provisional data

The number of affiliations to the Social Security General Regime with location of the contribution account in Catalonia increased by 2.3% year over year in March 2026 and stood at 3,212,265 affiliations, according to provisional data. By counties, affiliations increased in all counties except for three. The highest relative increases were recorded in El Pallars Sobirà (9.5%), the territory of Aran (8.6%) and El Baix Empordà (6.8%). On the other hand, the only counties that registered declines were El Priorat (−1.9%), El Bages (−0.3%) and El Berguedà (−0.1%). In absolute terms, the highest increases were recorded in El Barcelonès (21,590 affiliations), El Tarragonès (8,205), and El Vallès Occidental (5,030 affiliations), while the highest decreases were recorded in El Bages (−180), El Priorat (−30) and El Berguedà (−10).

The number of self-employed workers carrying out economic activities in Catalonia rose by 1.5% year over year to 574,710 affiliations. The counties that recorded the highest relative increases were L'Alta Ribagorça (4.3%), El Tarragonès (4.2%) and El Baix Penedès (3.1%). In absolute terms, growth was led by El Barcelonès (3,395 affiliations), El Vallès Occidental (675 affiliations) and El Tarragonès (650 affiliations). On the other hand, the counties with the largest relative decreases were El Priorat (−5.0%), El Pallars Sobirà (−2.6%), and El Pallars Jussà (−2.4%), while the highest decreases in absolute terms were El Segrià (−125 affiliations), El Pla d'Urgell (−75 affiliations) and El Priorat (−50 affiliations).

The number of contribution accounts to the Social Security General Regime in Catalonia increased by 0.5% year over year (1,252 contribution accounts) to 247,414 accounts. The counties leading relative growth were El Lluçanès (4.2%), El Moianès (3.9%) and El Tarragonès (3.5%). In absolute numbers, the highest increases were recorded in El Tarragonès (297 accounts), El Vallès Occidental (223 accounts) and El Barcelonès (185 accounts). On the other hand, the counties with the largest drops in absolute terms were El Segrià (−43 accounts), El Bages (−36 accounts) and El Montsià and El Vallès Oriental (−29 accounts each).

Following the introduction of several improvements in the query interface for these statistics on the Idescat website, it is now possible to consult several variables for more than one period at a time and download the data in open formats.

As of March, the results of these statistics for 2026 are produced using the new Catalan Classification of Economic Activities (CCAE-2025).
