Territorial Gross Disposable Household Income. 2023

The municipality in Catalonia with the highest level of income per inhabitant in 2023 among municipalities with more than 1,000 inhabitants was, for the first time, Alella, with an income per inhabitant of 35,425 euros. The Catalan average was 20,789 euros.

The second municipality in terms of income per inhabitant was Matadepera (34,766 euros), followed by Sant Just Desvern (33,256), Cabrils (31,280), Sant Cugat del Vallès, Tiana and Teià. At the other end, the municipalities with the lowest income per inhabitant were Salt (13,633), Lloret de Mar (14,009), Castelló d'Empúries (14,136), El Perelló (14,198) and Santa Margarida de Montbui (14,390 euros).

Compensation of employees was the main source of income for families in all municipalities and accounted for 60.8% of the main resources of families in Catalonia. On the other hand, income from gross operating surplus represented 18.8%, and that derived from social benefits 20.4%.

The highest percentages of income from compensation of employees were found in Perafort (73.2%); on the other hand, La Pobla de Lillet was the municipality with the lowest percentage (40.2%). With regard to gross operating surplus, La Vall de Boí (40.2%) recorded the highest percentage, in contrast to that registered in Torres de Segre (13.2%). Finally, La Pobla de Lillet was the municipality with the highest percentage of income from social benefits (38.0%), while Sant Cugat del Vallès and Avinyonet de Puigventós (both with 11.8%) were the municipalities with the lowest percentage.

Compared to the previous year, gross disposable household income per inhabitant increased in 464 out of the 470 municipalities studied, recording an increase of 8.5% for Catalonia as a whole.The two municipalities with the highest growth were Alella and Montferrer i Castellbó. Income only decreased in six municipalities: Cabra del Camp, Quart, Corbera d'Ebre, Navata, Mediona and Mont-ras.

Income per inhabitant increased in all counties in 2023, and L'Alt Camp was the county where it increased the most (12.8%), followed by El Barcelonès (10.9%), El Solsonès (10.7%) and L'Alt Urgell (10.4%). At the other end, there were El Montsià (5.9%) and El Baix Penedès (5.1%).

El Barcelonès, with 23,632 euros, remained the Catalan county with the highest gross disposable household income per inhabitant in 2023, followed by El Vallès Occidental (21,314 euros), El Baix Llobregat (21,188), El Garraf (20,950) and El Maresme (20,916). At the other end, the counties with the lowest income levels were El Montsià (15,287), La Terra Alta (16,072), La Noguera (16,203), L'Alt Empordà (16,222) and L'Alt Urgell (16,310).

El Lluçanès, a county for which information on household income is being published for the first time, as it was created in 2023, had an income per inhabitant of 20,082 euros in 2023.
