The Government approves the new decree on the organisation of Idescat
The Government of Catalonia has approved the new Decree on the organisation and functioning of the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat), with the aim of modernising its structure, strengthening its leadership and adapting it to the new challenges of data production and governance, in line with the standards of the European Statistical System.
The Decree consolidates Idescat as the body responsible for the planning, coordination and management of the Statistical System of Catalonia, and introduces new lines of action aimed at developing statistics in socially relevant and emerging areas, improving territorial and short-term statistics, and promoting experimental statistics to respond to new information needs.
One of the main new features is the creation of the Datalab Office, designed to progressively become a point of access to and integration of statistical and administrative data from the Government of Catalonia and its public sector, for research and public policy evaluation purposes, in strict compliance with the applicable legislation.
The Decree also redefines the organisational structure of Idescat to improve its efficiency and effectiveness, maintaining a management structure organised into three deputy directorates general. In addition, the Planning and Innovation Area is created, with strategic functions in the fields of quality, methodology and statistical innovation. Finally, the Decree introduces changes to the governance bodies in order to help enhance transparency, institutional participation and the quality of decision-making.
