Consumer Confidence Index. 03/2026

The Consumer Confidence Index for Catalonia stood at 69.3 in March 2026, which represents a decrease of 17.8 percentage points compared to the previous month and a decrease of 17.5 points compared to March 2025. In this regard, the Index recorded the lowest value since October 2023.

This Index is based on consumers' assessments of the current situation compared to six months ago and expectations for the next six months, considering the following three components: the household economy, the labour market and the general economy.

Regarding the household economy confidence index, it reached a value of 87.6, a figure that represents a decrease of 10.6 points compared to February and a decrease of 14.1 points compared to a year ago (March 2025). Regarding the expectations of the household economy, they showed an index below 100 for the second time since November 2023, with a value of 95.5 (−13.7 points compared to February 2026 and −13.8 points in year-over-year terms).

In relation to the labour market confidence index, it reached a value of 70.0, which means a decrease compared to both February 2026 (−15.5 points) and in year-over-year terms (−15.3 points).

Regarding confidence in the general economy, the index reached a value of 50.1, the lowest value of the three components, a fact that has been repeated since October 2024. This index decreased, as the confidence indices in the labour market and the household economy did, but more sharply (−27.5 points compared to February 2026 and −23.2 points in year-over-year terms).

In March 2026, the assessment of the situation compared to six months ago recorded the lowest value since October 2023, with an index for Catalonia of 67.3 points, 11.7 points lower than the index reached the previous month (February 2026). These data are explained by the negative performance of confidence in the three components. In this regard, confidence in situation of the labour market and confidence in the household economy decreased compared to the previous month by 6.2 points and 7.4 points, respectively, while confidence in the general economy decreased more sharply (−21.4 points).

In year-over-year terms, the assessment of the current situation decreased by 16.0 points. This result was due to the fall in confidence in the general economy (−24.2 points compared to March 2025) and the less intense year-over-year decrease in confidence in the labour market situation (−9.3 points) and in the household economy (−14.4 points).

In relation to the next six months, the consumer confidence expectations index in March 2026 recorded a value of 71.2, reaching the lowest figure since October 2022 and decreasing by 24.0 points compared to February 2026. This decrease, as happened with the confidence index in the current situation, reflects the negative performance of all components: the assessment of expectations in the general economy and in the labour market decreased sharply (−33.7 points and −24.8 points, respectively), while the assessment of expectations in the household economy decreased by 13.7 points compared to the previous month.

In year-over-year terms —that is, compared to March 2025— the expectations index decreased by 19.1 points. This behaviour reflects the negative performance of the three components: expectations in the general economy decreased by 22.3 points, expectations in the labour market by 21.2 points, and expectations in the household economy also decreased, although to a lesser extent (−13.8 points)..
