Consumer Confidence Index. 04/2026

The Consumer Confidence Index for Catalonia reached a value of 76.5 in April 2026, which represents an increase of 7.2 percentage points compared to one month ago and a decrease of 4.6 points compared to April 2025. In this sense, the Index recorded one of the three lowest figures since April 2023.

This Index is based on the assessment that consumers make of the current situation compared to six months ago, and of expectations for the next six months, taking into account the following three components: the household economy, the labour market and the general economy.

Regarding the household economy confidence index, it reached a value of 91.6, a figure that represents an increase of 4.0 points compared to the month of March, but a decrease of 6.7 points compared to one year ago (April 2025). Regarding expectations in the household economy, it is the only index valued above 100, with a value of 102.2 (6.7 points compared to the month of March 2026 and −3.9 points in year-over-year terms).

In relation to the index of confidence in the labour, it reached a value of 76.3, which represents an increase both compared to March 2026 (6.3 points) and in year-over-year terms (0.7 points).

As for confidence in the general economy, the index reached a value of 61.7, the lowest assessment of the three components, a fact that has been repeated since October 2024. This value is an increase of 11.6 points over the figure for March 2026, but a decrease of 7.6 points compared to the same month last year (April 2025).

In April 2026, the assessment of the situation compared to six months ago showed an index of 71.5, a figure 4.2 points higher than the index reached the previous month (March 2026). This figure is explained by the positive trend in confidence across all three components. In this regard, confidence in the situation of the household economy increased compared to the previous month by 1.3 points, and confidence in the general economy and the labour market did so with greater intensity (5.2 points and 6.1 points, respectively).

In year-over-year terms, the assessment of the current situation recorded a decrease of 8.3 points. This result is the product of the negative trend, although with different intensities, of the three components compared to March 2025: confidence in the general economy (−12.2 points), the household economic situation (−9.6 points) and the labour market situation (−3.1 points).

In relation to the next six months, the consumer confidence expectations index in April 2026 recorded a value of 81.5, an increase of 10.3 points compared to March 2026. This increase, as is the case with the confidence index in the current situation, reflects the positive trend in all components: the assessment of expectations in the general economy, which increased sharply compared to the previous month (18.0 points), while assessment of expectations in the labour market and the household economy increased with less intensity (6.4 points and 6.7 points, respectively).

In year-over-year terms, that is, compared to April 2025, the expectations index decreased slightly by 0.9 points. This behaviour is explained by the negative trend in two of the three components. In this regard, the year-over-year decrease in expectations in the general economy and in the household economy (−3.1 points and −3.9 points, respectively) could not be offset by the year-over-year increase of 4.3 points in expectations in the household economic situation.
