Statistics on Hotel Activity. 05/2026

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 2.8% year over year in May 2026, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays grew by 3.3%: of these, those of Catalan travellers increased by 2.6% and travellers from the rest of Spain by 4.2% year over year. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 2.6% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, the United Kingdom and United States show the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (758.1, 746.9 and 447.5 thousand, respectively), with a positive year-over-year variation in France (1.3%) and United States (6.0%) and negative in United Kingdom (−6.9%).

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Barcelona were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.1, 1.3 and 1.2 million, respectively) with positive year-over-year variations in Barcelona (2.0%), Costa Brava (4.8%) and Costa Barcelona (1.9%).

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments increased by 4.4% year over year, with an increase in domestic tourism by 4.5% and by 4.4% in foreign tourism.
