Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector. 2024

In 2024, the turnover of industrial establishments in Catalonia amounted to 185,304 million euros, representing a decrease of 2.0% compared to one year earlier. In the same period, the number of persons employed in companies in this sector was 508,684 (2.2% higher than in 2023) and the gross value added at factor cost stood at 43,511 million euros (5.1% higher than the previous year).

As for industrial groupings, those standing out in terms of turnover and share of total industry were the food products industry, with 37,917 million euros (20.5% of total industry); the chemical industry, with 23,380 million euros (12.6% of the total), and the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, with 20,429 million euros (11.0% of the total). The industrial grouping with the highest year-over-year increase in terms of turnover compared to the previous year was water supply; sewerage and waste management with 5,521 million euros (11.4%), followed by the manufacture of pharmaceutical products, with 9,865 million euros (a rise of 6.3%).

In terms of the geographical destination of sales, 34.6% of the sector's sales went to foreign market (21.9% to European Union countries and 12.7% to the rest of the world). The most outstanding groupings in terms of foreign sales were the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (with 23.1% of total industrial foreign sales); the food products industry (with 15.4%), and the chemical industries (with 14.9%).

All these figures place the apparent productivity per employee in the industrial sector at 85,536 euros (2.8% higher than the previous year).
