Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 06/2026
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 111,565 people in June 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 3.0%, standing at 3,809,295 people, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in all counties and Aran. The most notable increases, in relative terms, were in Aran (4.8%), Osona (4.4%), El Baix Penedès (3.9%) and L'Urgell (3.7%).
Regarding the municipalities of Catalonia, the number of contributors increased or remained stable in 87% of municipalities (823 municipalities) compared to the same month of the previous year, while it decreased in the rest of municipalities (124). All municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants in Catalonia increased the number of contributors compared to a year ago, led, in relative numbers, by L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Manresa (4.6% each), Vilanova i la Geltrú (3.9%), and Vic (3.8%).
Compared to May, the number of contributors increased by 15,795 people (0.4%) in Catalonia as a whole, doing so in 34 counties and Aran. The growth in Aran (9.5%) and L'Alta Ribagorça (7.3%) stood out.
By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 47,490 and the number of men by 64,075, representing year-over-year increases of 2.7% and 3.3%, respectively.
In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups. The increases in the youngest age group (6.0%) and the oldest age group (5.1%) were particularly notable.
Foreign national contributors grew in Catalonia as a whole by 10.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, with increases recorded in all counties and Aran. Spanish national contributors grew by 1.3% in Catalonia as a whole, with increases recorded in 37 counties and Aran.
The number of Social Security affiliations stood at 3,991,880 in June, a figure that represents a 3.0% increase compared to a year ago (the same variation as that recorded for the number of contributors).
By economic activity sector, all sectors increased the number of affiliations. Affiliations in the services sector increased by 3.4% in Catalonia as a whole and also did so in all counties and Aran. In industry, affiliations increased by 1.7% in Catalonia as a whole and also did so in 35 counties and Aran. In the case of construction, affiliations increased by 1.2% in Catalonia as a whole and in 29 counties and Aran. Affiliations in agriculture increased by 3.5%, with 2,090 more affiliations than a year ago.
It should be noted that these variations may be affected by the fact that, from January 2026 onwards, the results of these statistics are presented under the new Catalan Classification of Economic Activities (CCAE-2025), which is a comprehensive revision of the previous classification structure (CCAE-2009), used for results until December 2025.
By type of working day, 19.0% of employee affiliations in June were part-time work. In the case of women, the proportion was 25.9%, more than double that of men (12.5%).
Regarding temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security employee affiliations of a temporary nature stood at 10.7%. The counties with the highest level of temporary contracts were El Pallars Sobirà (14.8%) and El Pallars Jussà (14.6%), and the county with the lowest level of temporary contract was El Baix Empordà (7.6%).
