The Statistical Plan for Catalonia will now be approved by Government decree

Law 11/2026, of 9 July, on fiscal, financial, administrative and public sector measures, published in the Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia (DOGC) on 10 July 2026, amends several provisions of Law 23/1998, of 30 December, on statistics in Catalonia.

Until now, Law 23/1998 provided that the Statistical Plan for Catalonia had to be approved by an Act of the Parliament of Catalonia. Following the amendment introduced by Article 130 of Law 11/2026, the Plan will now be approved by Government decree, with a duration of four years. Consequently, Law 11/2026 amends Article 3.2 of Law 23/1998 to confer on the Government the power to approve the designation of statistics of interest to the Generalitat, in accordance with the provisions established in that Law.

The new regulation also establishes that Parliament must be informed both of the approval of the draft decree and of the approval of the Government decree.
