Quarterly Household Disposable Income. Q1/2020-Q4/2025
The Quarterly Household Disposable Income are the fourth statistics that Idescat has added to its experimental statistics section, following the standards of the European Statistical System.
These experimental statistics aim to provide quarterly estimates of the disposable income of Catalan households, of its main components and of their purchasing power. The new statistics make it possible to gather information at a higher frequency than the annual estimates of household income. This indicator complements quarterly GDP, since it offers a direct approximation of the economic resources available to households and, therefore, of their material well-being.
Catalonia's gross household disposable income stood at 50,739.3 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2025, 5.1% more than in the same quarter of the previous year. As for gross disposable income per inhabitant, the year-over-year increase was 3.9% in the fourth quarter.
Households' purchasing power, measured through household disposable income per inhabitant in real terms —that is, once the effect of consumer price developments has been discounted— increased by 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. As for the index, it stood at 104.5 (Q1 2020 = 100), meaning that households' purchasing power is 4.5% higher than in the first quarter of 2020.
Household resources amounted to 73,096.3 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2025. Primary income, which includes compensation of employees (42,088.7 M€) and mixed income and other (16,411.7 M€), was the main source of household resources, with 58,500.4 million euros, a figure that represented 80.0% of total resources. Net social benefits contributed the remaining 14,595.9 million euros, equivalent to 20.0% of household resources.
Household resources registered the highest value in the available series and increased by 6.2% compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Primary income increased by 5.9%, driven mainly by the growth in compensation of employees (7.6%). Net social benefits increased by 7.3%, while mixed income and other rose by 1.7%.
The Quarterly Household Disposable Income is part of experimental statistics. The results published are provisional, may be subject to revision and improvement, and are not considered official statistics.
