Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 07/2026
The number of Social Security contributorsin Catalonia grew by 117,295 people in July 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 3.2%, standing at 3,796,075 people. The number of contributors grew in all counties and Aran. The most significant increases in relative terms were in Aran (4.8%) and Osona (4.4%), although it should be noted that the latter is affected by the change in county assignment of Aiguafreda.
Regarding the municipalities of Catalonia, the number of contributors increased or remained stable in 86% of municipalities (817 municipalities) compared to the same month of the previous year, while it decreased in the rest (130). All municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants in Catalonia increased their number of contributors compared to a year ago, led in relative numbers by L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (5.5%), Vic and Santa Coloma de Gramenet (4.2% each), and Manresa (4.1%).
Compared to June, the number of contributors fell by 13,220 people (−0.3%) in Catalonia as a whole and also in 19 counties, led by El Bages and L’Anoia (−1.5% each). Conversely, the highest increases in relative numbers were in Aran (7.3%) and El Pallars Sobirà (5.0%).
By sex, and compared to a year ago, the number of women Social Security contributors in Catalonia as a whole increased by 48,580 and the number of men by 68,715, representing year-over-year increases of 2.8% and 3.5%, respectively.
In Catalonia as a whole, the number of contributors increased in all age groups, with the most significant increase in the group of contributors under 30 years at 6.1%, followed by the age group of 55 years and over at 5.0%.
Foreign national contributors grew by 13.1% in Catalonia as a whole compared to the same month of the previous year, doing so in all counties and Aran. Spanish national contributors grew with less intensity, by 0.9% in Catalonia as a whole, and also in 36 counties.

By sector, affiliations in the services sector increased by 3.4% year over year and grew in all counties and Aran. In industry, affiliations increased by 1.8% in Catalonia as a whole and also did so in 35 counties and Aran. In the case of construction, affiliations increased by 2.0% in Catalonia as a whole, and also in 30 counties and Aran. Affiliations in agriculture increased by 5.2%, with 3,115 more affiliations than a year ago, and also in 35 counties.
It should be noted that these variations may be affected by the fact that, from January 2026 onwards, the results of these statistics are presented under the new Catalan Classification of Economic Activities (CCAE-2025), which is a comprehensive revision of the previous classification structure (CCAE-2009), used for results until December 2025.
By type of working day, 19.0% of employee affiliations in July were part-time work. In the case of women, the proportion was 25.9%, more than double that of men (12.5%).
Regarding temporary contracts, the proportion of employee affiliations Social Security of a temporary nature stood at 10.6%. The counties with the highest level of temporary contract were El Pallars Sobirà (15.5%) and El Pallars Jussà (15.4%), and the county with the lowest level of temporary contract was El Baix Empordà (7.6%).
