The network of statistical offices of the autonomous communities holds its third plenary meeting of the year

The network of Central Statistical Bodies of the Autonomous Communities (OCECA) held its plenary meeting on 15 September, chaired by Idescat. The session focused on monitoring the technical working groups and on various coordination and collaboration initiatives between the regional statistical bodies and the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Among the main matters discussed, particular note was taken of the proposal to create a new working group of the Regional Statistics Forum (FER), called Environmental accounts: methodology and monitoring. This proposal arose in the context of the Statistics Days of the Autonomous Communities held in May 2026 in Barcelona.

The new working group will aim to monitor the environmental accounts operations included in the National Statistical Plan and in the regional statistical plans, from the design phase through to dissemination. The lines of work will include the analysis of the regional sources available for estimating environmental accounts, the identification of those accounts with the greatest potential for regionalisation, and the exchange of information on methodological developments and on the activities carried out by the INE and the autonomous communities.

The session also addressed collaboration between the INE and the regional statistical offices on the INE’s surveys included in its National Statistical Plan, with the aim of strengthening a model based on advance planning, informational transparency and the possibility of collaborating in the different phases of the statistical operations.

Another area addressed was the Statistical Interoperability Node (InterSTAT project) and work related to the future information exchange system between the INE, the regional statistical offices and the General State Administration.
