Statistics on Hotel Activity. 08/2026

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 2.7% year over year in August 2026, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Overnight stays from domestic tourism increased by 3.1%: of these, those of Catalan travellers increased by 8.7% and those of travellers from the rest of Spain decreased by 3.6% year over year. Overnight stays from domestic tourism increased by 2.6% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, the United Kingdom and Germany recorded the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (1.4 million, 950.4 and 514.8 thousand, respectively), with positive year-over-year variations in the United Kingdom (2.6%) and Germany (2.0%) and a negative variation for France (−0.2%).

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.4, 2.3 and 2.0 million, respectively) with positive year-over-year variations in Barcelona (5.1%), in Costa Brava (1.1%) and in Costa Daurada (2.8%).

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments increased by 5.6% year over year, with an increase in domestic tourism by 4.5% and an increase in foreign tourism by 6.2%.
