Economically Active Population Survey. Review of the 2021-2023 series

The publication of new population and housing censuses means that data from household surveys, which are based on these population data, have to be revised.

The census 2021 has not made major changes to the population base of the Economically Active Population Survey (EPA) for the period 2011–2021, so it has not been necessary to revise the results retrospectively beyond the first quarter of 2021.

The revision of the EPA 2021–2023 series is the result of the inclusion and updating of the new population and housing series derived from the Population and Housing Census 2021, which replace the series based on the 2011 census used until the fourth quarter of 2023.

This population change entails the revision of the survey weighting factors from the first quarter of 2021 and therefore updating all EPA results between the first quarter of 2021 and the fourth quarter of 2023.

In order to analyse the effects of the change of population base in the new EPA estimates, Idescat publishes the differences in the main aggregates for the period 2021-2023 according to the populations based on the population and housing censuses of 2011 (now outdated) and 2021.
