ISPAT Indicators of High-Technology Sectors and Products

Idescat offers a summary of statistics that contains a series of relevant indicators on the high-tech and medium high-tech sector. The indicators for high-tech sectors and products are a useful tool for analysing the competitiveness and internationalisation of the economy. High-tech sectors and products are characterised by a need for faster renewal than other technologies and a degree of complexity that calls for continuous research and a robust technological foundation.

Delimiting this sector is complex in terms of the classification of activities as it has both industrial and service branches. The OECD's methodology and Eurostat's European adaptations have been used to determine which activities and products are considered high-tech.

The results are presented grouped by subject areas and the information is disaggregated by high-tech or medium high-tech sectors (high-tech manufacturing sector, medium high-tech manufacturing sector and high-tech or cutting-edge services) and by activity branches.

The indicators are compiled by drawing on official statistical sources.
