Translation into English of the third edition of the European Statistics Code of Practice, adopted by the European Statistical System Committee on 16 November 2017. The Code of Practice is a self-regulatory instrument based on sixteen principles that cover the institutional environment, the statistical processes and the output of statistics. A set of indicators of best practices and standards are articulated upon the basis of these principles to permit analysis of the application of the Code and to increase the transparency of the European Statistical System. The purpose of this edition of the Code of Practice (adopted for the first time in 2005 and revised in 2011) is to reflect the changes and innovations in the development, production and dissemination of official statistics in the European Statistical System, including new emerging data sources, the use of new technologies, the modernisation of the legal framework and the results of the reviews on the implementation of the Code of Practice.
