Statistics MM

Methodological note

The Migratory Movements statistics are based on citizen declarations, and consists of the changes in the municipality of residences (additional and removals) in the Municipal Population Register. These statistics are collected on a residential variations form, which must be completed by all those changing their municipality of residence.

Since 2005, the Residential Variation Survey, produced by the INE, provides information on foreign emigrations.

Starting in 2006, part of the foreign emigrations registered on the Residential Variation Statistics correspond to delistings by expiration. These delistings arose from the legislative change to the 7/1985 Organic Law, which regulates Local Ordinances, introduced in the 14/2003 Law on Foreign Nationals, which states that foreigners from outside the European Union without a residence permit must renew their registration at the registrar every two years. In the event the renewal is not carried out, municipalities must declare the expiry of the registration.

The main characteristics contained on the residential variations form are sex, age and nationality.
