Methodological note

The main objective of the Labour market statistics on people with disabilities is to ascertain the situation of disabled people and their integration in the labour market.

Disabled people are defined as the group of people in the 16–64 age range, with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, who reside in main family dwellings. From 2014, they also include: (i) pensioners from the Social Security agency who have a recognised permanent 100% or major disability pension and (ii) pensioners of the beneficiary categories that have a retirement pension on the basis of permanent disability for service or unfitness (in accordance with Royal Legislative Decree 1/2013, of 29 November).

Active population is the group of persons (aged from 16 to 64 years) who furnish the labour supply for the production of economic goods and services or who are available and carrying out procedures to start doing so.

Employed persons are people aged from16 to 64 years who are working either as employees or as self-employed.

Unemployed persons are people aged from 16 to 64 who are out of work, available to work and actively seeking work.

The activity rate is calculated by dividing the number of persons aged 16 to 64 in activity by the total population of the same age group.

The employment rate is calculated by dividing the number of persons aged 16 to 64 in employment by the total population of the same age group.

The employment rate is calculated by dividing the number of persons aged 16 to 64 in unemployment by the active population of the same age group.
