Agricultural census 2020
Idescat publishes the modular type data of the 2020 Agricultural Census, which completes the dissemination of the results of this Census that began on 8 November 2022 with the publication of the census type data. The topics of the modules of the 2020 Agricultural Census are: labour and other gainful activities, rural development and livestock housing and manure management.
According to the information on labour and other gainful activities, the working days of the total number of people working on the 54,972 agricultural holdings registered in Catalonia are equivalent to 62,087 annual work units (AWU) or persons working full time during the reference agricultural year. By typology, 46.1% of these people are classified as family labour, 35.9% as regular contracted labour, 13.2% as temporary labour and, finally, 4.8% as subcontracted labour.
Of the 44,399 agricultural holdings where the holder is a natural person, 1,742 (3.9%) of these holdings are engaged in other gainful activity using the resources of the holding (land, machinery, buildings, etc.). The majority activity, comprising 503 holdings, is agricultural work under contract for other holdings (with means of production of the holding), followed by tourism, accommodation, and other recreational activities, with 436 holdings.
Regarding rural development data, 13,698 farms in Catalonia have benefited from the rural development measures of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) in the last three years. Of particular note in this respect are the aid related to agri-environment and climate (7,632 farms) and aid aimed at areas with natural limitations (5,185 farms).
With reference to the information in the module on stabling and management of livestock waste, for the whole of Catalonia, between 1 October 2019 and 30 September 2020, the maximum occupancy capacity for cattle was 802,708 stalls, for pigs 10,115,316 stalls, and for laying hens 7,541,586 stalls.
In the 2020 agricultural year, 11,448 farms, with at least one type of livestock from cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or poultry, have stored livestock waste.
