Business Climate Survey. Section on the Current Entrepreneurial Situation. Q2/2023

In the second quarter of 2023, 33.6% of businesses in Catalonia declared that they had collaborated in some way with vocational education centres. The sectors with the greatest collaboration are industry and accommodation and food service activities, with percentages of 42.0% and 40.0%, respectively, while construction presents the smallest percentage, 26.9%.

On the other hand, 39.7% of businesses in Catalonia stated that they had not had difficulties in recruiting suitable vocational education graduates for a job in the last 3 years, compared with 33.0% of businesses that stated that they had. The remaining 27.2% of businesses have not had the need to recruit in this period.

The main aspects encountered by businesses when recruiting suitable graduates in vocational education are: lack of professionals with the appropriate training for the required profile (92.0%), lack of initiative and commitment (65.2%) and non-acceptance of the working conditions, such as working hours, salary, etc. (50.8%).

Among the businesses that have recruited people with vocational education qualifications in the last 3 years, 29.1% have recruited people who have recently obtained the qualification. By sector, this percentage varies from 18.5% in the hotel and catering industry to 38.1% in industry.
