Statistics on Hotel Activity. 10/2023

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 11.8% year-over-year in October 2023, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 17.0% year-over-year, while domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 2.1%: of these, travellers from the rest of Spain decreased by 6.2%, while Catalan travellers increased by 1.0% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, the United Kingdom and the United States presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (651.9, 561.3 and 373.9 thousand, respectively). The United Kingdom and the United States registered positive year-over year variations of 33.5% and 28.3%, respectively, while France decreased by 3.6%.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Barcelona and Costa Brava were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.1, 1.0 and 1.0 million, respectively) and registered positive year-over-year variations of 1,7%, 26,4% and 23,1%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments grew by 7.0% year-over-year, with a growth in foreign tourism by 10.8% and by 0.2% in domestic tourism.
