Statistics and Accounts of the ICT Companies. 2021

The turnover of the ICT sector in Catalonia reached 22,224 million euros in 2021. The sector generated a gross added value of 8,518 million euros and employed 122,991 people.

By activities, those that generated the highest turnover belong to the services sector: IT services, Wholesale trade of ICT equipment and Telecommunications. The 3 of them represented 92.5% of service ICT activities and 87.3% of total ICT activities.

In the reference year 2021, several methodological improvements are applied to the Structural Business Statistics. Consequently, this year's results are not strictly comparable with those of previous years. The most significant changes affecting the Statistics and Accounts of the ICT Companies are: the extension of the sample of Repair of computers and personal and household goods (division 95 of the CCAE-2009); the specification of which institutional sectors are covered by the Statistics, and, finally, an improvement in the estimation of the number of companies.

There are also methodological improvements to the Industrial Products Survey, which cause a break in time series with data from previous years.

Finally, from 2020 onwards, the Innovation in Companies Survey by INE is conducted every two years, in even years. For this reason, in 2021 there is no data available on innovation.
