Idescat publishes the life table for the population of Catalonia for the period 2018-2022. For this period, life expectancy at birth was 83.26 years (80.46 years for men and 85.97 years for women), a difference of 5.5 years in favour of women. The level of life expectancy at birth in the four Catalan provinces was: Barcelona (83.44 years), Girona (83.05 years), Lleida (82.98 years) and Tarragona (82.86 years).

Compared with the data from ten years ago (2008-2012), life expectancy at birth for the population as a whole has lengthened by 1.06 years, with a more significant increase in men (1.26 years) than in women (0.86 years).

Life expectancy at age 65 for the period 2018-2022 was 21.19 years (19.03 years for men and 23.11 years for women), with a difference between the two sexes of 4.07 years. In the four provinces, the value of life expectancy at 65 was: Barcelona (21.29 years), Girona (21.13 years), Lleida (21.11 years) and Tarragona (21.05 years).

Idescat disseminates the complete life table for the population of Catalonia (which provides life expectancy for each age) and the abridged life table for Catalonia and the provinces (with results by five-year age groups). The series starts in the period 1981-1985.

Idescat’s complete and abridged life tables, calculated on the basis of five-year averages, complement the series of abridged life tables compiled by the Catalan Ministry of Health on an annual basis.
