The number of companies with establishments in Catalonia stood at 600,090 on 1 January 2023, according to Companies and Establishments statistics compiled by Idescat based on the Central Business Register (DIRCE) of the National Statistics Institute (INE). The number of companies with head offices in Catalonia was 591,734.

The new definition of economically active company, after Regulation 2019/2152 on European business statistics (EBS) and Implementing Regulation 2020/1197 came into force, affects the calculation of the number of companies and establishments; therefore, the data are not comparable with those of previous years.

In terms of the concept of company which is the legal unit (see Series from 2008, CCAE-09, Legal units), the number of companies with establishments in Catalonia was 617,298, and the number of companies with head offices in Catalonia was 604,840.

In terms of establishments, the number was 690,507.
