Companies and Establishments. 01/01/2024

The number of companies with establishments in Catalonia stood at 611,342 as of 1 January 2024, 1.9% higher than it was the previous year, according to the Statistics on companies and establishments compiled by Idescat based on the INE’s Central Business Register (DIRCE). As for the companies with the head office in Catalonia, the number was 602,706, datum which also means an increase of 1.9% as compared to the former year.

When analysing the evolution of the companies with establishments by sectors, it registered an annual increase in the construction (1.0%) and the services (2.2%), and a decrease in the industry (−1.0%). By size of the company, the grouping of from 1 to 9 employees increased by 16.4% whereas the grouping of without employees decreased by 8.8%. By legal status, it states an increase in the number of natural persons (0.4%), private limited companies (3.8%) and other legal forms (4.6%). By contrast, the number of public limited companies decreased by 2.3%.

When using the concept of company, which is conterminous with that of a legal unit, the number of companies with establishments in Catalonia was 629,204, 1.9% higher than the former year, and the number of companies with the head office in Catalonia was 616,310, which also represented an increase of 1.9%.

Regarding the establishments, the number was 704,547, which means an annual increase of 2.0%.
