Gender Equality Index. 2022

In 2022, the gender equality index in Catalonia was 76.7 points (total equality stands at 100), which represents an increase of 0.2 points compared to 2021. The Catalan data are 5.7 points above the European Union average, which was 71.0 points.

Regarding the 6 domains in which the 31 indicators that make up this index are structured, the health domain presents the higher level of gender equality, with 88.1 point. Next, from highest to lowest score, are the domains of money (83.3), power (81.3), time (75.7) and work (75.7). Finally, the lowest score is obtained by knowledge (66.4).

Compared to the previous year, it highlights an improvement in equality in the money domain (+2.5), as well as a positive evolution in the domains of power (+0.5) and knowledge (+0.3). In contrast, the health domain registered a decrease (−1.5), what also happened in the domains of work (−0.8) and time (−0.2).

In comparison with the European Union average, Catalonia registered better score in equality in 4 of the 6 domains, of which power (+19.9) and time (+7.2) stand up. On the other hand, Catalonia had lower score than the European Union average in the domains of money (−0.1) and health (−0.5).

In relation to Spain as a whole, Catalonia presented better score in the domains of time (+5.3) and money (+3.8) but worsened in the domains of knowledge (−3.7), health (−2.9), power (−0.7) and work (−0.6).
