Structural Business Statistics in the Service Sector. 2023

The turnover generated by companies in the non-financial market service companies in Catalonia was 352,567 million euros in 2023, an increase of 6.1% compared with the previous year. In the same period, the number of persons employed by companies in this sector was 2,211,719, an increase of 1.3%, and the value added at factor cost was 103,961 million euros, an increase of 9.4% compared with the previous year.

The Wholesale trade sector generated the highest turnover (128,335 million euros, an increase of 3.4% compared to last year) and the highest added value (17,330 million euros, 5.0% higher than the previous year). The sector Administrative and support service activities employed the most people (322,067 persons employed, an increase of 1.3%), and the sector Professional, scientific and technical activities had the most companies, 89,784, an decreasing by 1.0% compared with the previous year.

It should also be noted that the Retail trade sector ranked second in terms of both turnover (51,563 million euros) and the number of persons employed (299,409 persons).

The Information and communications sector experienced the most significant year-over-year growth in employment (6.5%), with 136,177 persons employed.

Apparent labour productivity per employee in the services sector stood at 47,004 euros (8,0% less than the previous year).
