Territorial Wage Statistics. 2024

Idescat is launching a new section of experimental statistics with the Territorial Wage Statistics.

Sant Cugat del Vallès is the municipality with more than 50,000 inhabitants that had the highest average wage income in 2024 at 54,549 euros gross (more than 22,000 euros above the Catalan average of 31,746 euros). It was followed by Castelldefels (38,570 euros) and Barcelona (36,466 euros). In contrast, the municipality with the lowest average wage income was Santa Coloma de Gramenet (26,003 euros) followed by L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Reus.

The purpose of these statistics is to provide detailed information on the average wage income of residents in municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants and in Catalonia based on the Longitudinal Statistics on Working Lives.

In 2024, all municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants saw an increase in the gross wage income of their residents compared to 2023, except for Manresa which remained practically stable, falling by 0.1%. The municipalities with the highest increases were Sant Cugat del Vallès (5.9%), Mollet del Vallès (5.7%) and Granollers (5.6%).

By sex, gross wage income for men stood at 34,473 euros and for women at 28,765 euros. Sant Cugat del Vallès and Castelldefels topped the list for gross wage income for men. For women, the highest gross wage income was found in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Barcelona. Conversely, the lowest gross wage income for both men and women were recorded in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.

By branch of economic activity, the highest gross wage income in Catalonia in 2024 was for contributors in the branch of Communications, finance and real estate activities (45,469 euros) and that of Public Administration, Defence and compulsory Social Security (38,544 euros). Most municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants followed this pattern with the exception of Sant Cugat del Vallès, Castelldefels and Tarragona, where the branch with the highest gross wage income for contributors was industry, and in the case of Granollers, where it was construction.

By type of contract, the gross wage income of Social Security contributors with indefinite contracts stood at 31,804 euros, while for those with temporary contracts it was 25,788 euros. By municipality, Sant Cugat del Vallès had the highest gross wage income for both indefinite and temporary contracts (56,715 and 36,731 euros, respectively). In contrast, the lowest gross wage income for indefinite contracts was in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (25,557 euros) and for temporary contracts, in Manresa (20,171 euros).

By type of working day, in 2024 the gross wage income of residents in Catalonia working full-time was 34,171 euros and 18,703 euros for those working part-time. Sant Cugat del Vallès headed the list with the highest gross wage income for full-time work (58,818 euros) and also for part-time work (27,711 euros). In contrast, the lowest gross wage income for full-time work was in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (28,111 euros) and for part-time work, in Manresa (14,562 euros).
