Quarterly Accounts. Q1/2026

The gross domestic product of Catalonia recorded a year-over-year variation of 2.9% in the first quarter of 2026. In quarter-over-quarter terms, the variation was 0.6%.

Quarterly Accounts estimates incorporate complete short-term economic information for the first quarter of 2026, which has led to the maintenance of both the year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter variation rates with respect to the Quarterly Advance of GDP published on 8 May 2026.

From the demand perspective, domestic demand is the component that contributes most to GDP growth, with a year-over-year variation of 3.3%. The domestic demand components showing the highest increases are household consumption (3.4%) and gross fixed capital formation (3.3%), while final consumption expenditure by government grew by 2.9%.

Regarding the external sector, total foreign exports showed a year-over-year variation of 1.5%, the result of the negative trend in exports of goods and services (−0.1%) and the increase in consumption by non-residents (10.4%). As for imports, they showed a year-over-year rate of 2.7%, the result of the trend in imports of goods and services (2.3%) and consumption by residents abroad (9.4%).

From the supply perspective, all sectors showed positive trends in activity. Construction stood out with 5.5% and services with 3.7%, followed by agriculture and industry (1.6% and 0.9%, respectively).

The Quarterly Accounts are consistent with the corresponding Annual Economic Accounts for Catalonia. Quarterly series should be considered provisional, as the necessary coherence between annual and quarterly estimates requires quarterly estimates to be modified, at least as long as the annual estimates are provisional.
