Statistics on Contributory Pensions. Contributory Social Security Pensions and Pensioners. 2025

In 2025, 1,574,057 pensioners receiving contributory Social Security pensions resided in Catalonia, 1% more than the previous year.

The number of pensioners grew in 37 counties and Aran, and the most outstanding increases were recorded in Osona (2.8%, although it must be taken into account that it is affected by the change in county assignment of Aiguafreda), La Cerdanya (2.7%) and El Baix Empordà (2.3%).

Municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants where the number of pensioners increased the most were Salou (4.3%), Sant Quirze del Vallès (3.0%), and Sant Pere de Ribes and Castelldefels (2.8% in both cases).

The weight of pensioners receiving contributory pensions out of the total population in Catalonia stood at 19.4%, 0.1 points less than in 2024. By county, the highest percentages were recorded in El Ripollès (27.5%), La Terra Alta (27.4%), El Berguedà (27.3%) and El Lluçanès (26.7%); in contrast, the counties with the lowest proportion were La Cerdanya (15.0%), Aran (15.5%) and L'Alt Empordà (16.1%).

Esplugues de Llobregat was the municipality with more than 20,000 inhabitants with the highest percentage of pensioners (23.0%), followed by Cerdanyola del Vallès and Igualada (21.8% in both cases). The municipalities with the lowest percentages were Salt (13.5%), Salou and Vila-seca (13.8% in both cases) and Lloret de Mar (14.0%).

The average amount received by pensioners in December was 1,575 euros in 2025, an increase of 4.4% compared to last year. The average amount of pensions increased in all counties and Aran, with the highest variations in Les Garrigues (5.7%), El Priorat and La Terra Alta (5.3% in both).

El Barcelonès was the county with the highest average gross amount received by pensioners receiving contributory Social Security pensions with 1,694 euros, followed by El Tarragonès (1,618 euros), El Baix Llobregat (1,613 euros) and El Gironès (1,608 euros). At the other end of the scale, La Terra Alta was the county with the lowest monthly average amount (1,156 euros), followed by Les Garrigues (1,225 euros) and El Montsià (1,250 euros).

Among municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, Sant Cugat del Vallès showed the highest average amount, with 1,925 euros per month, followed by Sant Quirze del Vallès (1,889 euros) and Sant Just Desvern (1,838 euros). At the other end, Roses (1,248 euros), Lloret de Mar (1,278 euros) and Amposta (1,300 euros) were the municipalities where this monthly amount was lowest.

By sex, in 2025, 52.1% of pensioners were women and 47.9% were men. Men received an average of 1,787 euros per month, while women received 1,381, representing a difference of 406 euros per month.
