The main objective of the Statistics on Household Consumer Expenditures is to provide information on the scope, structure and distribution of household consumer expenditure. It also provides information on the consumed physical amounts of certain food products and energy sources.
In 2024, the new United Nations Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP 2018) was incorporated into the Household Budget Survey. The results for the 2016–2020 series and the year 2023 have been updated to adapt them to the new Classification.
These statistics are based on the Household Budget Survey, which is carried out annually by the INE. Idescat processes these data in detail on a yearly basis, expanding the results for Catalonia.
