The main objective of the Statistics on Household Consumer Expenditures is to provide information on the scope, structure and distribution of household consumer expenditure. It also provides information on the consumed physical amounts of certain food products and energy sources.
In 2024, the new United Nations Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP 2018) was incorporated into the Household Budget Survey. In the 2025 edition, the results for t 2021 and 2022 were revised, also incorporating the population figures from the Census 2021. As a result of these changes, the entire series from 2016 to 2023 have been revised.
These Statistics are based on the Household Budget Survey, which is carried out annually by the INE. Idescat processes these data in detail on a yearly basis, expanding the results for Catalonia.
