In 2023, Catalonia’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached 292,474 million euros and growth in volume was 2.6%.

From the erspective of demand, internal demand grew by 1.4% in 2023, mainly due to the increase in household consumer expenditure (1.9%) and final consumption expenditure by government (2.3 %); On the contrary, gross capital formation decreased by 0.7%. Regarding foreign trade, total exports increased by 7.1% and imports by 2.9%. The tourism components of both variables maintained significant growth, 22.6% in exports and 8.7% in imports.

On the supply side, the growth of industry (3.5%) and services (3.1%) stands out. On the contrary, construction moderated its growth to 1.8% and the agricultural sector experienced a drop of 17.6%.

Idescat presents the annual estimates of the main economic aggregates for the period 2000-2022. GDP information from a supply perspective is disaggregated by 44 branches of activity for the period 2000-2020 and by 10 branches in 2021 and 2022. These latest estimates are mainly made with short-term information.
