The business situation of Catalan companies in the fourth quarter of 2018 recorded a balance of 11.1 points, a figure representing an increase of 2.2 points with respect to the situation in the previous quarter but a fall of 1.5 points in comparison with the expectations for the fourth quarter expressed in the previous quarter.
By sectors of activity, they all displayed positive balances in terms of their business performances. We should highlight the sectors of construction and rest of services, with respective balances of 17.1 and 15.2 points. At the other end of the scale comes industry, with a balance of only 1.1 points.
In addition, business situation expectations for the first quarter of 2019 display a balance of 9.5 points, a figure 3.1 points below the expectations for the previous quarter.
The Business Climate Survey (CLEM) collects quarterly the opinion of the representatives of 3,000 companies with activity in Catalonia and allows to know the current situation, the evolution and the expectations of a set of variables affecting the economic development of businesses, and also to anticipate possible changes of trend in the economic cycle. It presents results for Catalonia and for the sectors of industry, construction, retail, hotel business and company service sectors.
The statistical operation is produced jointly by the Barcelona Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Shipping and Idescat. To obtain the results, the sample taken from this survey was integrated with the sample for Catalonia from the operation Business Confidence Indicators conducted by the INE.
