Statistics on Hotel Activity. 08/2019

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 2.8% year-over-year for the month of August 2019, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 1.6%: of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 3.9% while travellers from the rest of the State increased by 2,0% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays grew by 4.7% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, United Kingdom, Russia and Germany presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (1,426.4, 927.0, 579.9 and 438.5 thousand, respectively), with year-on-year variations of different sign: France and Russia grew by 3.9% and 0.7%, respectively, while United Kingdom and Germany decreased by 2.4% and 1.7%, respectively.

By tourism brands, Costa Brava and Barcelona were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2,319.5 and 2,294.2 thousand, respectively) and show positive year-over-year variations, of 2.9% and 5.5%, respectively. Costa Daurada, with 2,006.3 thousand overnight stays, shows a slight decrease (-0.2%).

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments grew by 3.3% year-over-year, with a decrease in domestic turism by 1.8%, while foreign tourism increased by 6.2% in .
