Statistics on Hotel Activity. 10/2019

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 0.7% year-over-year for the month of October 2019, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 10.3%: of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 4.9% and travellers from the rest of the State decreased by 17.0% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays grew by 4.0% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from United Kingdom, France, Germany and United States presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (608.8, 593.7, 346.6 and 307.5 thousand, respectively), with year-on-year variations of different sign: United Kingdom and United States increased a 2.1% and 12.4%, respectively, while France and Germany decreased a 8.1% and 5.7%, respectively.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Barcelona and Costa Brava were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (1,977.4, 961.8 and 960.1 thousand, respectively) and registred positive year-over-year variations in Barcelona by 3.7% and in Costa Barcelona by 2.1%, while Costa Brava showed a negative tax of 1,6%.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments grew by 2.8% year-over-year, with a decrease in domestic turism by 4.4%, while foreign tourism increased by 6.4%.

The monthly data are still provisional since January 1999 to December 2010. The short-term data are definitive from January 2011 until last year over period published
