Tourism of Residents in Catalonia. Q4/2019 and 2019

The number of trips made by Catalans increased 8.9% year–over–year in the fourth quarter 2019. People residing in Catalonia made 6,8 million trips, involving 17.6 million overnight stays, an average stay being 2.6 nights, and an expenditure of 1,349 million euros.

The expenditure of Catalans on trips in the fourth quarter came to 206 euros per person, which represents a decrease of 20.0% in comparison with the fourth quarter of 2018, and expenditure of 79 euros per day, which represents a increase of 4.2%

The number of day trips made by people residing in Catalonia stood at 10.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2019, 18.1% less than in the same quarter of the previous year.

In 2019 the number of trips made by Catalans decreased 0.6%, the total amount of expenditure by catalan travellers decrease a 0.1% and the daily average expenditure per person increase a 0.4%. According to the main destination of the trip, 60.9% of the trips of the Catalans were made in Catalonia (with an annual increase of 0.1%); 22.7% went to the rest of the State (decrease of 3.3%) and 16.4% to foreign countries (increase of 5.3%).
