Municipal Population Register. Statistical exploitation. 2020. Advance. Provisional data

The registered population of Cataloniastands at 7,778,362 inhabitants as of 1 January 2020, according to the provisional data of the Municipal Population Register. This figure represented a rise of 103,145 people (1.3%) with respect to 1 January 2019.

By nationality, the foreign population stands at 1,259,013 inhabitants, constituting an increase of 99,586 people (8.6%). The population of Spanish citizenship (6,519,349 inhabitants) increased by 3,559 people. The foreign population accounted for 16.2% of the total population.

The provisional data from the statistical exploitation of the Register are only available by provinces. Information on the disaggregated population is provided broken down by the variables of sex, age, place of birth and nationality.

In December 2020 Idescat will disseminate the definitive population figures by municipalities, counties and Aran, the areas of the Territorial Plan and provinces.
